Your skin
This is a picture of a sliced section of normal skin. Notice that the follicle and pore are next to each other and not one in the same. Cystic Acne tends to have roots in another area, not really clogged pores. OTCs treat pores clogged by dirt, not the more serious problems associated with the hair follicle as with hormonal or cystic acne (click the picture on the side to enlarge)

DO
If you are already on a pretty decent diet and your skin is still not in the condition it should be, then you may want to consider the problem possibly being either bacterial infection or hormonal. You can either purchase natural products or make some at home. I'll tell you about the acne home remedy mask first then tell you what I buy that is also fresh and natural. Cystic pimples can benefit from a regular mask but you will still need to do majority of the work internally through diet. It will help the symptoms of cystic pimples and the inflammation that comes with it but it won't cure the problem completely. Only a better diet will.
At home mask:
The cystic acne remedy mask is really simply and pretty easy. All you will need is 1 lemon, a ripe avocado, and some honey. Mix the juice from the squeezed lemon, the avocado and about 3 tablespoons of honey. Mix into a paste. Apply to face. Leave on for about 15minutes or until dry. Rinse off thoroughly and you will see a big difference. If you have bad acne do this every nite before bed for 1 week otherwise 2 or 3 times a week for mild to small breakouts are fine. You will see hard cystic acne inflammation go down after the first night and more each day you use it. Let me know how it goes for you!
My fave to purchase:
LUSH! I love them! They use all natural ingredients in their skin care. Many of which you have to be refrigerated because of the delicate freshness of the item. They have a two masks that I have tried for the cystic acne. It did shrink my pores and helped inflammation go down. A good one is Brazened Honey and Cupcake. You will feel them working. Just don't expect a miracle. These will help your situation but you must eat well to help these work better for your cystic acne and cystic pimples. You definitely have to know what works for you and what to get from them. Everything they try to sell you will NOT work for everyone so be careful. There are only a handful of products that I stick to when I go in. Some of their soaps have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which I warn against using on our skin. You can find my notes on it in my blog. I don't like many of their creams and lotions either. I only get the ultra natural products. Below are a few of the products that I have used and continue to use to this day. Ever since I began using their products I've noticed DRAMATIC results. I use the Herbalism with my Tea Tree oil and it works nicely to keep my skin feeling balanced and never drying, but moist. These products really have healing elements to not only clear the skin and relieve inflamed cystic acne, but also soothe and heal the cysts while you are getting through your journey toward clear healthy skin.

DO
- Cut down on enriched flour products such as breads, packaged sweets such as cookies and cakes, fried foods, and fried packaged foods such as chips.
- Eat more raw vegetables, fruits, and fish. Strawberries and melons can be a very sweet treat and great in the Summer! Snack on carrots and your favorite nuts instead of chips. Almonds and Cashews are high in omega-3 and magnesium (also great for fighting acne as it supports the immune system)
- Make sure you eat more healthy homemade meals and cut back on fast food meals. Even salads like the ones at McDonalds' are loaded in fat and corn syrup in their dressings & veggies. So read the labels before buying and don't be afraid to ask how something is prepared in restaurants. I just found out that McDonald's adds sugar to their breakfast OJ! WTH? Just because something looks healthy doesn't mean it is. Its your money and you have the right to get what you want and need.
- Cut back on corn syrup and products high in sugar. Excess sugar can also contribute to overgrowth of yeast in the body which can stimulate hormones and relate to other problems.
- Find ways to replace your junk food cravings with healthier raw foods you enjoy.
- If you like juice and have a juicer this is a great way to get in your veggies and fruits in a cup. Be careful of store bought pasteurized juices that are high in sugar and low in nutritional value.
- Save money by seeking natural remedies that will soothe and calm your acne breakouts. I list some great natural remedies here in this site too below!
- Give up on yourself or the hope that your cystic acne will get better.
- Don't stop fighting and searching for ways to help your problems.
- Don't stop at what one doctor tells you. Get a second and third opinion if you have to and see specialists in the field of skin.
- Don't feel bad about your cystic acne. It is not a reflection of who you are inside. It is a condition that you will soon be rid of.
- Don't let your emotional health suffer. You are smart. Acne is dumb. I will arm you with the tools to strategize a plan and destroy it. It can be done without strong drugs or medicine. Have patience.
- Don't let acne control you or what you want. Remember you are the source of your own happiness. It is up to you so don't give up!
- Don't think that changing your diet is something you can't do. You can!! I did it and I was the queen of junk and all that is bad for the body- for years.
